The World English Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) was formed in 2003.

They provide an official structure for the international community of Scrabble tournament players.

They also provide a standard set of rules and a rating system for national Scrabble Associations across the globe. They work with Mattel and Collins on the standard word source for tournament play, Collins Official Scrabble Words (CSW).

Their members are primarily national-level English-language Scrabble associations, and they represent 33 countries on five continents.

Anyone interested in competitive Scrabble play is encouraged to look up their national-level Scrabble association. Contact information can be found on the WESPA – World English Language Scrabble Players Association website, and individuals in countries without a national-level association can join WESPA as individual members.

History

WESPA was formed during a players’ meeting at the 2003 World Scrabble Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and formally constituted on 17 November 2005 at its first Biennial General Meeting held in London. BGMs are now held at each World Scrabble Championship, and there are currently 24 member organizations.

WESPA represents international Scrabble competitors and national bodies around the world.

  • Assist members in pursuing their interests in the game
  • To promote the interests of players of Scrabble and international tournaments
